Medpage Today, April 21, 2020 — Rural areas have specific healthcare challenges that make combatting COVID-19 harder, and those issues need to get more attention, several experts said Tuesday.

“It’s important to keep our focus on the short term dealing with the crisis as it continues to expand throughout rural areas … but we have to do it with an eye to the longer term as well,” former Senate Majority Leader Tom Daschle, co-founder of the Bipartisan Policy Center (BPC), said during a rural healthcare webinar sponsored by the center. “One day the COVID-19 crisis will end — or at least diminish — and we’ll have circumstances involving infrastructure that we’ll have to address.”
