The Legislature passed a bill this week that would significantly narrow the important immunity protections granted to healthcare professionals and facilities for the duration of the state’s COVID-19 emergency declaration.

The state called upon our healthcare system this spring to meet an unprecedented demand for care and gave providers assurances they could practice in good faith, knowing limited and appropriate legal protections were in place. The bill passed this week, S.8835/A.10840, would now inexplicably take much of that protection away and would severely impact the availability of and access to healthcare services during any future spike in COVID-19.
